Riots swept through London and other British cities. According to residents in areas experiencing unrest, riots were triggered by local tensions and anger over economic hardship in London where the gap between rich and poor people continues to grow.
"We had no job, no money. We hear other people get stuff easily, so why are we not?" E. said Nan, a young man in Hackney, multiethnic region in east London.
A British professor believes that the unrest is about the haves and the underprivileged. "It's not purely a matter of race, creed and class," said Professor Mike Hardy, Executive Director of the Institute of Community Cohesion institutions.
